New hover n3. The Chinese flagship went for an update - the Great Wall Hover H3. Modifications on the Russian market

The Chinese SUV Great Wall H3 New since April 2014 can be ordered and bought in Russia. The new Great Wall H3 of 2014, having survived the planned restyling, changed outside and inside, received new options, and most importantly, got a new more powerful 177 horsepower turbocharged gasoline engine and a 6-speed manual gearbox. Price on Gray Wall H3 in 2014, taking into account the update, it also increased and starts from 775 thousand rubles for the Great Wall H3 New Luxe package and rises to 819 thousand rubles for the Great Wall H3 New Super Luxe. At the same time, under the hood of these versions, an old atmospheric 2.0-liter engine (116 hp) and a 5 manual transmission are installed. It will be possible to buy a Chinese H3 New SUV with a turbo engine and 6 manual transmissions only starting from the fall of 2014.

Photos of the new Great Wall H3 2014 fully convey the atmosphere of freshness and solidity of the external update of the Chinese SUV. The main changes in the exterior design of the H3 New fall on the front of the body. We also see new lines and details on the stern of the car. But the side surfaces of the Chinese auto novelty of 2014 remained, like its predecessor -.

The new face of the H3 with the new prefix adorns a huge false radiator shield in a rich chrome frame and with four horizontal bars. To match the increased size of the grill and large headlights, stylishly fit into the new design of the front of the car. The solid bumper received edge protection with non-painted plastic, a more stylish design of foglight seats and a bright ski insert in the center.

From the front, the updated Great Wall H3 began to look presentable, solid and bright, there was no trace of the former modesty of its predecessor.
In profile, the body of the H3 New retained the familiar lines and proportions of the pre-styling model. In the presence of the classic straight lines of the universal body of an SUV, powerful wheel arch extensions, large rectangles of doors, a flat roof with roof rails slightly sloping towards the stern, black plastic on the thresholds, R17 alloy wheels with 235/65R17 tires. Of the new details, you can only notice the moldings on the doors in silver.

The rear part of the body of the restyled Greatwall H3 demonstrates new, more stylish and expressive marker lights, a tailgate devoid of a handle (opens with a button hidden above the license plate area) and a new strict bumper with an aluminum insert, fog lights, parking sensors located on two levels .

  • The installation of other bumpers and roof rails entailed a slight change in the external dimensions of the body of the updated Chinese SUV, which are now 4650 mm long, 1800 mm wide, 1745 mm high with a 2700 mm wheelbase, 1515 mm front wheel track and 1520 mm rear track. wheels.
  • It's nice that the ground clearance of the H3 did not suffer from the installation of new bumpers and is 310 mm under the front bumper, the clearance under the engine crankcase is 240 mm.
  • The mass of the Chinese SUV H3 New in running order is 1905 kg.
  • You can choose the color of the enamel for painting the body from six proposed options: milky white, champagne, silver, walnut, dark gray or graphite black.

The cabin of the new Gret Wall Hover H3 2014 makes a good impression thanks to the presence of new interior trim details, modern multimedia equipment and an overall good and cozy atmosphere. We sit down in the driver's seat of the H3 New Super Luxe configuration: we have a familiar steering wheel with a leather braided rim and height adjustment, an informative dashboard, a leather interior, an electric driver's seat, heated front seats, climate control and other familiar attributes of a modern car - all traditional, but... the center console is new, original and simply eye-catching. At the top there is a narrow screen of the on-board computer that reports the location of the car above sea level (altimeter), atmospheric pressure (barometer) and even a compass!!!

Further - more, new rectangles of ventilation deflectors, in the center of the center console there is a large touch-screen color screen of the multimedia system (bluetooth, two slots for SD, USB and AUX, a rear view camera), which is installed, however, as an option. There is also a simpler version of the audio system - a regular multimedia system (CD MP3 MP4 DVD USB bluetooth). It is worth noting that the driver's and front passenger's seats received more pronounced lateral support for the hips and back, to sit comfortably and comfortably. The perforated leather on the seats has become better and softer, a contrasting red stitching has appeared.

You should not look for changes in the second row. There is enough space to accommodate three passengers, a nice bonus under the right seat cushion is a complete set of tools.

Specifications Gret Wall H3 2014 - that's what interests us, and our readers. The car, of course, remained a full-fledged SUV with all-wheel drive transmission (hard-wired front-wheel drive, two-speed transfer case), front independent double-lever torsion bar suspension, rear dependent suspension with a solid axle, all-wheel disc brakes with ABS and EBD and power steering.

The most interesting thing is hidden under the hood of the new Great Wall H3 2014-2015. This autumn, the H3 New will appear with a 2.0-liter turbocharged Mitsubishi 4G63S4T engine (manufactured under license), delivering 177 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque between 2400 and 4800 rpm. The motor is paired with a 6 manual transmission, adapted to the 92nd gasoline and is content with 10 liters per hundred in mixed driving mode.
Well, from the start of sales, the new Gret Wall Hover H3 of 2014 can be bought with a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter engine (116 hp 175 Nm) paired with a 5 manual transmission.

Frame SUVs models H3 and H5 form the basis of the popularity of the Great Wall brand. Their sales in Russia are steadily growing.
More and more residents of the Russian outback and big cities are making their choice in favor of what it was shameful to say 10 years ago - the Chinese "jeep".

Have you tried it? Yes, but it's not just that. Over a decade and a half of expansion into the Russian market, the quality of cars from the Middle Kingdom has grown significantly, and their purchase no longer seems to be an overly eccentric act.

The updated H3 is designed to warm up the demand for brand SUVs, and for this it has a whole set of important differences from the previous generation of the model.

The visual difference immediately catches the eye - the H3 front received a different, more aggressive design.

The "grill" of the radiator grille is made in the best traditions of unbridled Asian tuning. Inspires!
There are also differences in the back, but only an experienced sinologist will notice them.

H3 is no longer the modest man he used to be - a suit with a shimmer fit him, and now in the countryside he looks like an urban dandy. On the streets of the ancient city of Izborsk, H3 seems like an alien descended on our mortal earth - surrounded by a tired provincial fleet and old buildings, it appears as an elegant prince, attracting the views of rare passers-by and tourists from neighboring Lithuania.

The interior has undergone cosmetic changes designed to modernize the architecture of the salon, created in the late nineties by the guys from Isuzu (as you remember, the H3 / H5 are based on the Isuzu Axiom).

All materials are high-quality, butt-smooth, there is not even a hint of the suffocating smell of cheap plastic in the cabin.
One of the main acquisitions of the updated H3 is a new multimedia combine with a large screen, navigation, USB, bluetooth and the ability to connect external devices via AUX. There are even as many as 2 SD card slots - one of them is for a carrier with maps for the navigation system. And, oh gods, there are finally cup holders!

It also has a rearview camera and parking sensors.

The climate control unit has been thoroughly improved - it has become more convenient to use it.

The Chinese on-board computer is a thing in itself. It shows altitude, heading and barometric pressure. But to see something useful, such as average fuel consumption or outside air temperature, will not work.

The maximum that is available to the user is a useless indicator of instantaneous fuel consumption displayed on the instrument panel. This is such an interesting set. They say that representatives of the importing company asked the Chinese to finalize the package, but they refused - they say, we know better.

Initially, the Hover H3 is the youngest model in the family, so compared to the H5 model, there are slightly fewer options: for example, there is no cruise control and tire pressure sensors, and the electric driver's seat is available only in the Super Luxe package. Having a more "passenger" appearance, the H5 has a different type of all-wheel drive - TOD instead of the classic Part-time on the H3. Also, an automatic transmission is not available for the H3. Otherwise, these cars are twin brothers.

You can read more about the H5 in one of my reviews - almost everything that has been said applies to the hero of our today's test. I will say briefly that the landing in the car is specific - there is a high floor and low seats. But leather seats are already better than on the early Chinese - now you can ride long distances in them without an ache in your back.

The rear passengers in the H3 sit quite freely - three of us can ride without problems. The spacious trunk allows you to fold the rear seat backs almost into a flat floor, making it easier to transport rangefinders. However, there are also no differences from the previous H3 and H5.

The main difference between the new H3 and the old one is that a "charged" version with a two-liter gasoline turbo engine Mitsubishi 4G63S4T appeared in the line - almost the same ones are put on the Lancer Evolution sports sedans!

The modification of the legendary turbo-heart in the Chinese version is slightly derated compared to the original engine - the engine on the Great Wall H3 develops 177 hp. and 250 N.m.

A little? For comparison, the base Hover H3 with the same engine, but without a turbine, has much more modest characteristics - 115 hp. and 175 N.m. And nothing, people go to themselves and do not complain. Those who are pretentious and handy themselves improve the engines of their cars with the help of turbochargers.

Now you don’t need to invent anything and collective farms: the turbo engine is regularly registered under the hood. Go?
After pressing the gas, the engine does not wake up immediately - there is not enough traction on the bottoms. But after 2500 rpm, the shelf of maximum torque begins. Confident traction continues up to about 5000 rpm, after which it makes no sense to turn the engine further. I would not dare to call the dynamics a hurricane, but for Chinese cars this is a big step forward - the H3 with a gasoline turbo engine will accelerate to hundreds significantly faster than the H5 with a diesel engine and automatic transmission. The speedometer needle easily crosses 160 km / h, but driving at such a rhythm on a high-frame SUV without a stabilization system is simply scary.

Let's not rush, just note that the power of the new motor is quite enough for any highway overtaking. When you press the pedal to the floor on cold pavement and studded tires, the rear wheels break into a slip even in third gear. At the same time, the sound of the engine does not press on the ears - the H3 has sound insulation, and the cabin is quite quiet.

By the way, about the gearbox. There are as many as 6 gears here, which is very handy for a new motor. But here you will have to wield the lever often in order to keep the engine in the "working" rev range, avoiding "turbo lag".

In urban mode, I had no complaints - H3 confidently keeps in the stream, and from a traffic light it is able to surprise those who do not expect such agility. At the same time, the engine has a moderate appetite - no more than 15 liters of 92nd gasoline per 100 km.

But all the same, off-road vehicles are bought for driving outside the city, which is why we sent our chariots there. Country roads of the Pskov region are ideal for testing off-road vehicles - the abundance of potholes and bumps of various sizes allows you to check all the nuances of suspension controllability.

When moving in a straight line on a hard surface, H3 is unshakable. Even despite the empty steering wheel without pronounced feedback, the car clearly follows the trajectory, without frightening with pulls on ruts or bumps.

When driving very fast on very bad roads, some features of the suspension can be distinguished. The first of them is connected with the design of the car - the continuous rear axle, which is optimal for off-road, strives to swim away from the trajectory in corners if a grader is broken by pits under the wheels, and the speed is firmly over a hundred. Cars with independent rear suspension do not have such problems.

For really aggressive and fast riding on graders, the energy intensity of the suspension seemed insufficient to me - just like the H5 model, it is not enough for driving in the style of the Dakar rally. But for most consumers, a soft full-time suspension is not evil, but a boon that gives everyday comfort. And the craftsmen, as usual, will take up the wrenches and change the shock absorbers to IronMan or Dobinsons - and will beat the country lanes the way they like.

Another good reason not to drive a "turbo" H3 too fast is the lack of a stabilization system. Without electronic assistants, it will be difficult for an inexperienced driver to keep the Hover in the limiting modes, into which a powerful engine can unexpectedly be delivered. The turbo didn't turn the H3 into a sporty crossover - it's still the same tall frame car not meant for racing use. And there are only two airbags ...
Another thing is soft, viscous, enveloping off-road, smelling of fresh earth.

The new engine, coupled with a hard-wired all-wheel drive, allows the H3 to confidently cut bagels through the fields, climb steep slopes on a "lower slope".

You can enjoy it to the fullest, even if all you have for entertainment is giant puddles and ruts in the field. Gas to the floor, and let the photographers scatter wherever they look!

In terms of geometric cross-country ability, the H3 is not inferior to eminent SUVs.

The "turbo" H3 climbs slopes much better than the version with the base engine.

The reserve of power and torque gives more freedom in choosing a trajectory and allows you to save clutch life.

After the turbocharged version, the usual H3 with "aspirated" and the usual 5-speed manual transmission seems to be a goner. However, those who understand life are not in a hurry - and for a leisurely movement in space, the base engine is quite enough.

Add to this greater efficiency and a lower price: the "turbo-hover" will go on sale at a price of 920 thousand, while the regular H3 costs from 775 thousand rubles. Obviously, even with the appearance of a turbocharged modification on sale, the main demand will still fall on the version with the base engine. And the turbine is a pepper, a feature that draws the attention of customers to the model. After all, “a Chinese SUV with an engine from Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution” sounds cool!

Total

The Great Wall H3 new is a worthy result of the evolutionary development of the Chinese auto industry in general and the Hover SUV line in particular. Today, in terms of price-quality ratio, this is the most affordable frame SUV on the Russian market with a solid rear axle, a Part-Time hard-wired all-wheel drive and a low gear, with the exception of the UAZ-Patriot.

If we take such parameters as comfort, richness of equipment and convenience of everyday use in urban and rural conditions as selection criteria, then the scales inexorably tilt to the side, off-road and expeditionary training of which is already well mastered by Russian specialists. And a small consolation of feelings can only be that they collect H3 in Russia:

Advantages

  • Comfort on any road

  • Dynamics in the version with a turbo engine

  • Six-speed manual transmission

FlawsGreat Wall Hover H3 New (2014):

  • Limited set of on-board computer functions

  • No stabilization system

Today, in almost all showrooms of official dealers of the Great Wall company, the Great Wall Hover H3 SUV 2014-2015 model year is presented. True, in most cases, dealers only accept orders for the updated Hover, since full-fledged sales of the car should begin at the end of May this year.

The appearance of the car has undergone significant changes, adding solidity and some aggression. The dominant element of the exterior of the new Great Wall H3 has become a massive grille, which is complemented by large headlights and an updated bumper configuration. The chrome-plated fog lights integrated into the lower edge of the bumper, as well as the silver bumper trim that goes to the bottom of the car, look good. From the aft side, new lights and a more successful bumper appeared, which, like a similar element in front, flaunts a stylish overlay - an imitation of a diffuser. The roof of the restyled version of the Chinese SUV is crowned with roof rails.

Assessing the changes in the exterior of the car, it is worth noting that upon a cursory examination, the updated Hover H3 began to clearly resemble the German crossover Mercedes GLK. Obviously, it was this model from Stuttgart that inspired Chinese designers when developing the geometry of the head optics, the shape of the foglights and the design of the Hover radiator grille. Of course, the role model chosen is far from the worst, but the fact that Chinese automakers continue to copy cars from more famous brands is not inspiring.

The dimensions of the updated model have changed slightly. The car has grown in length, reaching 4650 mm, while the wheelbase has remained unchanged at 2700 mm. The width of the car body is 1800 mm, the height of the car does not exceed 1745 mm. The wheel track of the front and rear axles corresponds to 1515 mm and 1520 mm. A distinctive feature of the Chinese car was the magnitude of its ground clearance. Now the minimum ground clearance of the Great Wall H3 is an impressive 240 mm. According to this indicator, the car is ahead of the overwhelming number of real off-road models, including the recognized Russian "rogue". The curb weight of the Hover H3 for cars in the basic configuration is 1905 kg.

Restyling also affected the interior of the car. Thanks to the use of higher quality finishing materials, the interior of the Great Wall H3 New 2014 began to look much more attractive and solid than the interior of its predecessor. The front panel has been updated, received a modern center console. Here there was a place for the touch screen of the multimedia center, as well as the compact display of the on-board computer. But it was not without flaws. So, the excellent functionality of the on-board computer, which is capable of broadcasting the widest range of useful information, including the current altitude above sea level, is spoiled by the ugly backlight. In the daytime, the information on the computer display is almost impossible to make out. The sensor of the multimedia center also does not work in the best way - the system often does not respond to weak touches on the screen.

As for spaciousness, the interior of the SUV remained unchanged in this regard. It will be quite free for four passengers and the driver. The front seats have comfortable backrests and optimally sized pillows that allow you to make long journeys without long stops for rest. Unfortunately, the designers of the car did not change the trunk, which, as before, does not provide a flat floor surface when the rear seatbacks are folded down.

The previous version of the SUV was offered for sale with a single power unit, the role of which was performed by a 2-liter gasoline engine with 116 horsepower. Under the hood of the updated Great Wall Hover H3 2014, it is supposed to install two engines, one of which will remain the same 4-cylinder naturally aspirated unit, developed together with Mitsubishi specialists, and the second will be a more powerful 2-liter 177-horsepower engine. Considering these power plants, it should be noted that Great Wall engineers do not offer anything new, much less modern. The old motor is installed without any changes and modifications. The highest torque mark of this engine corresponds to 175 N * m, which the engine reaches in the range of 2500-3000 rpm. Together with the motor, the creators of the car install the already well-known 5-speed manual transmission. Such a tandem keeps the fuel consumption parameters of the car at the same level - in the city, the car consumes about 12 liters of gasoline, while driving slowly along the highway, fuel consumption can be reduced to 8.5 liters.

The “new” motor for the Hover H3 did not become a revelation either. In essence, this is an upgraded version of the engine described above with a revised fuel system installed on it. The more powerful engine delivers 250 Nm of torque and is mated to a new 6-speed manual gearbox with longer gears. The new box is designed to increase the reliability of the car in difficult road conditions. After all, the main drawback of the previous versions of the model was precisely the gearbox, which, in off-road driving conditions, could not withstand the loads and began to smoke with the clutch. The new engine is more "gluttonous" - when driving around the city, you will need at least 13.5 liters of gasoline, on the highway, manufacturers promise to keep within 10 liters of fuel. True, Great Wall H3 engines are designed to use AI-92 gasoline.

The chassis of the updated Hover H3 2014 does not differ in advanced design. The Chinese slightly reconfigured the suspension, replacing at the same time some elements with reinforced counterparts. As for the previous version of the SUV, a ladder-type frame was taken as the basis, for the manufacture of which high-strength steel was used. In front, the body is stopped by an independent torsion-type suspension of a double-lever design, which is complemented by an anti-roll bar. Behind the SUV rests on a spring dependent suspension with a transverse stabilizer and a continuous axle. Four-wheel drive provides for a rigid connection of the front wheels and the transmission of traction to the rear axle through a 2-speed transfer case. As for cross-country ability, the previous version of the Great Wall Hover H3 showed good results, adequately competing with many SUVs. After restyling, the car is able to compete off-road even with Russian UAZs.

The basic equipment of the car includes 17-inch alloy wheels, power steering, full power accessories, fog lights, height-adjustable steering column, ventilated disc brakes for all wheels, anti-lock braking system and EBD system, air conditioning, several airbags, rain and light sensors, seat heating, parking sensors and many other options available from competitors, usually in top trim levels. Prices for the Great Wall Hover H3 2014 start at 775,000 rubles.

The automotive world is going through a time of restructuring to new values. And Chinese industry is doing better than anyone else in this restructuring. A few years ago, cars from the East were associated only with the budget option for replacing domestic works of engineering.

But today the Great Wall Hover H3 2014-2015 model year is perceived as a status and very interesting car.

The purchase of an SUV is considered by the owners of used European and Japanese cars, because the price and technical characteristics of the new model make you seriously think about the meaning of overpaying for other brands. After watching advertising rainbow photos and professional videos about the new product, people find more advantages.

External review - what's new in design?

In 2014, the manufacturer decided to surprise not with updated technology, but with a beautiful pattern. Great Wall Hover H3 has become much prettier. Now it does not look trivial, does not cause any negative emotions.

A novelty appeared on the market quite unexpectedly, but today a new offer has attracted the attention of many potential buyers. Of course, it is extremely difficult to disassemble the charms of the Great Wall Hover H3 2014-2015 from corporate photos that have flooded the Internet. It is worth considering in more detail all the design features of the updated model:

  • the look has become more brutal, masculine and ready for critical acclaim;
  • in the design of the Great Wall H3 2014 there is now no deliberate plagiarism or obvious simplest moments;
  • the radiator grille and front optics have changed - the car has become more dynamic;
  • the manufacturer offers simple, but very suitable for the general appearance of light-sleeping wheels;
  • in the cabin, everything remained simple, but the quality of the materials in the visual assessment has increased.

Now, when looking at a video or in real life, it is very difficult to attach the label “Chinese” to an SUV. Everything looks original and very interesting. The designers have done a great job, but we will not yet give the laurels of superiority in the Great Wall Hover H3 class. We need to wait for a full-fledged update, when a new generation of SUV appears in front of us.

All-wheel drive and new suspensions are important updates

The engine that powers the Gray Wall Hover has not changed. This is the same mediocre 2-liter gasoline unit and 116 horsepower. Frankly, such an engine is not enough for a quality trip. But the power unit is configured in such a way that it picks up the car from the very bottom and pulls well to the maximum speed. A simple 5-speed gearbox looks quite reasonable paired with such an engine.

In 2014, the all-wheel drive system has changed. The company had excellent experience in the Dakar Rally, which gave a lot of information to change the settings of the SUV. True, such changes also affected the price of new items. Now Gray Wall Hover starts from 719 thousand rubles.

It is worth evaluating the technical characteristics in the complex:

  • good, but far from outstanding engine;
  • standard, fairly high-quality manual transmission;
  • all-wheel drive with excellent settings;
  • high ground clearance and high driving position;
  • soft, but too uninformative steering.

The steering wheel will seem too pliable if you transfer to the Great Wall Hover H3 from a domestic car. The amplifier works too hard, not giving the driver enough information about the road. For some, this will be a plus, because you get less tired behind the wheel.

In general, the car surprised me with its good assembly and layout. It's hard to say that the 2014-2015 Great Wall Hover H3 can compete head-to-head with its class rivals, but given its low price, it's clearly going to create its own class of buyers. It is better to get acquainted with all the capabilities of an SUV on a test drive - so you will have a complete picture of the capabilities of the car.

Options - a trump card of Chinese manufacturers

We are already accustomed to the fact that cars from China set certain moods and expectations of customers from the configuration. The set of equipment should be very high, but the main thing is that everything works properly.

On board the Great Wall Hover there is an excellent set of technologies. Judging by the reviews of the previous version, the manufacturer has pretty much added innovations to the novelty. Among the most remarkable things that you can check on a test drive are the following:

  • a complete set of airbags and passive safety equipment already in the basic version;
  • alloy wheels with a simple but suitable design for 17 inches;
  • climate control with a good range of settings;
  • sensors for automatic switching on of lighting and wipers;
  • a good range of driver's seat adjustments in the Great Wall Hover H3;
  • simple audio system.

The manufacturer offers all this already in the cheapest version. And there are two complete sets of Great Wall Hover H3 New. The cost of the top one is 50 thousand more than the basic version.

It is difficult to add what else I would like to have in this inexpensive SUV. Reviews from previous generation car owners speak of the poor quality of the suspension. The manufacturer promises that this problem will not arise in new cars.

Travel experience - what's good?

Taking a test drive of an SUV in the cabin, you can experience a fairly serious change in handling and ride quality. You can easily feel the quality of the machine on a new level. Even last year's updates of the concern were not so convincing.

But still there is some uncertainty that prevents you from pushing the accelerator pedal all the way. The engine of the Great Wall Hover H3 is not very strong, and the Chinese security systems, as it seems at once, can fail. But it is worth noting certain shifts towards improvement:

  • the trip has become more comfortable, the suspension takes on the blow of Russian bumps;
  • the engine works perfectly with the gearbox, without creating noise and discomfort in the cabin;
  • the long stroke of the gearshift lever is unusual only at first, then I even like it;
  • on too serious potholes, the suspension gives small shocks to the cabin.

If earlier in the passenger seat of the Great Wall Hover H3 I wanted to grab the handle above the door and secure my trip in this way, then in the current version there are no such shortcomings. The trip is calm and measured, the car behaves on the road like a first-class foreign car.

Summing up

There are no limits to the surprise of Chinese car manufacturing. Once again, updating an SUV causes a lot of positive emotions. It is difficult to say what pleased me the most in the new version - Great Wall Hover H3 2014-2015, but there are really many reasons for joy.

The cost of Great Wall Hover H3 will not change. This can only be influenced by currency fluctuations and Russian legislation in the field of car imports. The nominal price of the SUV will remain at the same level.

There are many reasons for buying a car. This is an inexpensive, high-quality and passable high-class model.

In the spring of 2014, the first copies of the New H3 SUV appeared in the showrooms of Russian dealers of the Chinese automaker Great Wall - which is the result of a "comprehensive modernization" of the Hover H3 model - it is important that, having changed "out of recognition", it remained the same" successful off-road conqueror.

In terms of appearance, the Great Wall New H3 has noticeably “grown up” - its appearance has noticeably added “aggression and solidity”: a new massive grille, a redesigned bumper and large headlights give the front of the SUV a “modern look with a masculine character”.

But in profile, it has not changed much, only the roof rails can be noted ... well, new lights and a bumper with a more pronounced overlay (imitating a diffuser) appeared at the back.

The dimensions of the "H3" remained practically unchanged. The length has grown to the level of 4650 mm, while the length of the wheelbase remains the same - 2700 mm, the width of the body fits into the framework of 1800 mm, and the height is limited to 1745 mm. The track width of the front and rear wheels is respectively 1515 and 1520 mm. The minimum ground clearance (ground clearance under the engine crankcase) has grown to 240 mm. The curb weight of the updated Great Wall H3 SUV in the basic configuration is 1905 kg.

Noticeably touched "restyling" and its five-seat interior. In addition to improving the quality of the materials used in finishing, we note the updated front panel with a modern center console, in which there was a place for a multimedia system touchscreen display and a small on-board computer display located at the very top and able to display a wide range of information, up to the height above sea level.

True, several disadvantages were immediately discovered: the “multimedia” sensor does not always clearly respond to weak touches (which is not very convenient while driving), and the on-board computer display is so dimly illuminated that it is almost impossible to make out anything on it during the day ... Otherwise, the interior remained the same - even the trunk has not changed (never “learned” to create a flat floor when folding the backs of the rear row of seats).

Specifications. If earlier the Great Wall H3 was offered with only one engine option, now there are two power plants:

  • The role of the base engine is played by the already familiar atmospheric 4-cylinder unit "4G69S4N" with a displacement of 2.0 liters (1997 cm³), developed jointly with the Japanese concern "Mitsubishi". The old motor remained unchanged. As before, its peak power is 116 hp. (although the advertising brochures most often featured an overestimated value of 122 hp), which develop at 5200 rpm. The upper limit of the torque of this engine falls at around 175 Nm, held in the range from 2500 to 3000 rpm. The base engine is paired with the old 5-speed "mechanics" - so that all fuel consumption parameters have remained at the same level - about 11.0 liters in the city and about 8.5 liters on the highway.
  • A little later, modifications with a “new engine” reached Russia. Well, as “new” ... the engine is built on the basis of the old one, but received a redesigned fuel system, electronics reconfiguration and turbocharging from Shanghai MHI Turbocharger Co. (which is a subsidiary of Mitsubishi in China). As a result, with the same number of cylinders and with the old volume of 2.0 liters, the engine, which received the index "4G63S4T", can produce 177 hp. maximum power and about 250 Nm of torque (but certified as “150-horsepower” in the Russian Federation). Paired with this engine is a 6-speed manual transmission with "extended" gears - which should have a positive effect on the cross-country ability of an SUV ("5-mortar" quite often could not withstand serious loads - smoking the clutch). As for fuel consumption, according to the manufacturer, in the city, such a tandem will fit within 13.5 liters, and on the highway it will be limited to 10.0 liters of gasoline (a brand not lower than AI-92).

There were no noticeable changes in the design of the Great Wall New H3 chassis - the Chinese only slightly reconfigured the suspension and replaced some of the elements with “reinforced versions”. As before, the SUV is based on a ladder-type frame made of high-strength steel. At the front, the massive body rests on an independent double wishbone torsion bar suspension, complemented by an anti-roll bar. The rear of the SUV rests on a dependent spring suspension with a solid axle and a transverse stabilizer. The all-wheel drive system has remained the same: the front wheels are rigidly connected, and the rear axle is transmitted through a 2-speed transfer case BW 47-60.

In terms of cross-country ability, this model has previously shown itself worthy - confidently competing with many eminent SUVs, and after restyling it is able to "measure its strength" even with UAZ - the turbo engine endowed the Hover H3 with additional power, and the increased ground clearance and reliable crankcase protection will allow it not to notice most of the road obstacles.

The pre-styling Great Wall Hover H3 became the first Chinese car to receive 4 stars according to the results of crash tests conducted in Australia according to the EuroNCAP methodology. During the restyling, there were no special changes in this direction, so you should not expect a noticeable improvement in safety. However, for a Chinese car "New H3" is good enough.

Prices and equipment. In Russia, the Great Wall New H3 is offered in five trim levels: Luxe, Super Luxe, Super Luxe + Leather, Turbo Luxe, Turbo Super Luxe.
