The cost of concluding a contract and all subsequent payments are determined taking into account various factors. After reading this article, you will learn how to calculate car insurance yourself, so as not to be surprised when applying for a policy. At the same time, this will allow you to determine in advance the amount of payment in case of damage to the car. Use the information you receive to prepare to discuss your contract with an insurance company representative.

Features of determining the cost of CASCO and OSAGO policies

The cost of an MTPL policy is calculated taking into account the base tariff, which is the same in all insurance organizations in Russia, and coefficients characterizing the condition of the car. Motor hull insurance is a voluntary matter, therefore the terms of cooperation between the parties (the car owner and the insurer) are negotiated individually.

Formula for calculating the cost of compulsory motor liability insurance

The methodology for calculating the cost of a compulsory motor insurance policy is based on a formula common to all Russian citizens. It looks like this: Cost of the MTPL policy = BT*CT*KBM*KVS*OK*KMD*KS*KN*KSSS. At first glance it looks scary, so it’s worth immediately considering in detail all the coefficients for calculating compulsory motor liability insurance. So:

  1. BT – basic tariff. The standard fare is determined taking into account the type of vehicle. This value is set by the state, and no insurance company is allowed to change it. Each type of transport has its own standard fixed tariff. And it doesn’t matter what kind of transport it is: a tractor or a motorcycle, a tram, a bus or a trolleybus, a truck or a car. The calculation of the MTPL policy for passenger vehicles of category “B” is carried out taking into account the ownership of the vehicle (the owner can be an individual or legal entity).
  2. CT – territorial coefficient. To correctly calculate MTPL insurance, you need to take into account the tariff of the region in which the vehicle is registered. It varies from 1.5 to 2. In Moscow, Perm, Chelyabinsk, Kazan and Yakutsk, the CT is 2.0. Car owners in St. Petersburg use the territorial coefficient of 1.8 when calculating the cost of their compulsory motor liability insurance policy. For the Leningrad region it is slightly lower – 1.6. The smaller the settlement, the lower the territorial coefficient.
  3. KBM – bonus-malus. This value represents a discount from the insurance company for driving without accidents. When drawing up a new OSAGO contract, the owner of a vehicle (not a car) is assigned a bonus-malus coefficient, taking into account the presence/absence of insurance payments under the previous policy. For each year of accident-free driving, the driver is given a 5% discount. If he becomes the culprit of an accident, the insurance company will apply an increasing coefficient, and the cost of the new policy will increase by 50%.
  4. PIC – age/experience. The higher the age and experience of the driver, the lower the FIC when calculating the cost of the policy. For example, drivers under 22 years of age and with less than three years of driving experience are at high risk of getting into an accident. For them, car insurance is calculated using an age/experience coefficient of 1.8. Every year (after reaching the age of 22 years and the expiration of 3 years from the date of obtaining a license), this coefficient decreases.
  5. OK – limiting factor. This value depends on who drives the car. If only your loved ones (son, daughter, wife, son-in-law, etc.) drive, the cost of insurance will not change. OK will be equal to one. When an insurance contract is drawn up for a car that will be used by a wide range of people (corporate freight transport, taxis, etc.), the limiting coefficient increases to 1.8.
  6. KMP – engine power. The more powerful the engine, the higher the CMP. You can find out the exact value of this value by looking at the vehicle’s passport.
  7. KS – seasonality coefficient. Some drivers use personal transport exclusively in the summer, and they do not want to overpay for compulsory motor insurance. For this purpose, it is possible to issue a policy for a period of 3 months.
  8. KN – coefficient of violations. The legislation of the Russian Federation provides for a number of circumstances in which the value of CN increases to 1.5. These include gross violations of traffic rules: fleeing the scene of an accident, deliberately reporting false information to representatives of the insurance company, driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs, intentionally facilitating a traffic accident.
  9. KSS – insurance period. The value of this value varies from 0.2 to 1.0. KSS is used in rare cases. For example, for foreigners or when moving a vehicle in transit.

Regardless of which insurance organization you choose: Rosgosstrakh, Ingosstrakh, RSA or Reso, the formula for calculating compulsory motor liability insurance will remain unchanged. To find out the price, use any convenient online calculator. For example, the calculation of OSAGO Rosgosstrakh clearly demonstrates the calculation of all amounts, including the total cost of the policy and the premium.

Calculation of penalties under compulsory motor liability insurance

Having learned how to correctly calculate car insurance, you should also familiarize yourself with the calculation methods and the procedure for collecting penalties. This concept implies the amount of money that the insurance company pays to its client in the event of complete/partial failure to comply with the terms of the contract. Such sanctions are imposed if there are delays in compensation when considering applications in cases provided for in the contract. If the parties cannot reach an agreement on their own, the conflict is resolved in court.

The amount of the penalty is calculated taking into account the following rules:

  • for each day of delay, 1% of the total amount of compensation for damage is charged (this rule applies to each of the victims);
  • the penalty for violation of repair deadlines is calculated taking into account the total cost of payment for restoration work;
  • the actual day of payment of the penalty must be taken into account when calculating the total amount of the fine;
  • in case of recovery due to insufficient compensation, the penalty is calculated based on the amount of underpayment;
  • the maximum amount of the penalty is limited to the maximum amount of insurance amounts by type of damage caused - 500,000 rubles. for compensation for damage to health and 400,000 rubles. for compensation for damage caused to the client’s property.

An OSAGO policy is a compulsory motor third party liability insurance agreement that will help the car owner financially protect himself in the event of an accident due to his fault.

Compensation will be triggered when civil liability occurs as a result of causing harm to the life, health or property of third parties while driving a car. The maximum limit of liability of the insurer for each case is:

  1. for damage to life and health - four hundred thousand rubles;
  2. for property damage - five hundred thousand rubles.

In case of an accident with three or more drivers, each victim can claim insurance compensation in the amount of the above limits. It is important to remember that this type of insurance does not cover the costs of restoring the car of the person responsible for the accident. This type of protection is provided by Casco. Insurance can be purchased on paper or electronically.

Federal Law No. 40 establishes a ban on driving a car without a contract. The penalty for failure to comply with this requirement is:

  1. if the driver does not have car insurance with him - five hundred rubles;
  2. driving during a period not provided for by the contract - five hundred rubles;
  3. driving a vehicle by a driver who is not included in the insurance – five hundred rubles;
  4. lack of a valid insurance policy for the vehicle – eight hundred rubles.

The policy price is calculated using the base rate and additional adjustment factors. This tariff is set by each insurance company at its own discretion within the range approved by the Central Bank. Adjustment factors are also developed and approved by the Central Bank, but, unlike the basic tariff, they are the same for everyone. The parameters that influence the calculation of the cost of insurance include:

  1. territory of use of the car or region of registration of the owner of the vehicle;
  2. presence/absence of accidents in history;
  3. presence/absence of restrictions;
  4. the number of complete years and experience of car drivers;
  5. number of horsepower;
  6. using a vehicle with a trailer;
  7. period of operation of the vehicle;
  8. contract time.

What documents are needed for registration?

To purchase this type of compensation you may need:

  1. identification document of the policyholder;
  2. PTS or STS;
  3. registration of all those admitted to driving (if the contract is drawn up with a list of drivers by name);
  4. a valid diagnostic card (if technical inspection is required by law).

Today it is not necessary to go to the insurer’s office and apply on a paper form. Issuing an insurance policy electronically has a number of significant advantages:

  1. Simplicity in design. To apply for a policy, you do not need to visit the insurance office - just fill out the form provided. The data specified in the application will be sent to the RSA database for verification, and after verification it will be generated automatically.
  2. Delivery. You won't need to adjust your schedule to meet with the courier or insurance agent. The agreement will be sent to you electronically by email. It will be enough to print it out and always have it with you.
  3. Less risk of fraud. One of the main problems with paper policies is the likelihood that an unscrupulous seller will issue you insurance on a fake form. Unlike a regular form, you buy an electronic policy through the website, and it almost immediately appears in the RSA database.
  4. The policy is always at hand. In case of loss or damage, you will only need to re-print it.

Despite all the listed advantages, the type of policy - paper or electronic - does not in any way affect the cost of insurance.

  • for persons who paid for the funeral – 25,000 rubles.

Maximum amount of compensation for damage to property

The MTPL policy, issued on a special form at the insurer's office, and the electronic E-MTPL policy have equivalent force. The cost of MTPL insurance is also the same in both cases. The main visual differences are:

  • lack of security elements on the electronic form;
  • writing a series of policies: in paper version – EEE, in electronic version – XXX;
  • absence of the policyholder’s signature (it is replaced by authorization in the “Personal Account” on the insurer’s website).

Also, the electronic policy has a number of advantages over the standard paper version:

  • E-OSAGO can be issued without leaving home and at any convenient time. There is no need to go to the insurer's office;
  • The electronic version of E-OSAGO is constantly available in the “Personal Account” on the insurer’s website. You can also save it on your computer, smartphone or email;
  • You don’t have to be afraid of ruining the policy form – E-OSAGO can be re-printed at any time.

What happens if you make a mistake when filling out driver information?

When calculating the cost of an MTPL policy, information about the owner of the vehicle, drivers allowed to drive and the vehicle are taken into account. The premium is calculated in accordance with the insurance tariffs for compulsory motor liability insurance approved by the Bank of Russia using the basic rates of insurance tariffs for compulsory motor liability insurance approved by the insurer. The price of OSAGO depends on such parameters as:

  • engine power and other vehicle characteristics;
  • driver's experience and age;
  • number of persons allowed to operate the machine;
  • region and city of residence of the car owner;
  • bonus-malus coefficient.

Having found out the exact cost of compulsory motor liability insurance, you can pay for it using:

  • bank card (VISA, MasterCard);
  • Internet bank "AlfaClick".

Important! You should not transfer funds directly to the AlfaStrakhovanie account. In case of payment in this way, the payment will not be counted and the conclusion of the contract will not take place.

Traffic police officers have the opportunity to check the policy through the Internet network of the IMTS of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia or using the RSA database. If there is information on these resources confirming the purchase of insurance, in accordance with Part 2 of Art. 12.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation, a person driving a vehicle cannot be held administratively liable. To avoid misunderstandings, we recommend that you always have a complete package of documents with you, including a printed E-MTPL policy.

The application of a discount for accident-free driving when concluding an MTPL contract (KBM coefficient) directly depends on the correctness of the driver information entered/provided by the Insured. Any mistake in the last name, first name, patronymic / date of birth / driver’s license number may lead to incorrect application of the discount for accident-free driving, and, consequently, to an overestimation of the insurance premium under the MTPL agreement. We ask Policyholders to be especially careful when entering/providing information about drivers when concluding an MTPL agreement.

Several changes have been made. Some of them affected only drivers who buy a new policy, others apply to all car owners.

Main changes to MTPL in 2017

1. Repair priority. On April 28, amendments to the Federal Law on Compulsory Motor Liability Insurance came into force, which limit the receipt of insurance compensation in the form of monetary compensation in the event of damage to a passenger car owned by a citizen. Now this can only be done in a few cases.

  • In case of complete loss of the vehicle (i.e. in the case when the repair of the vehicle exceeds its value at the time of the accident).
  • The cost of repairing a damaged car exceeds the maximum amount of the insured amount (for an accident registered without police officers, it is 50 thousand rubles, for an accident registered with the participation of the police - 400 thousand rubles) and the victim does not agree to make an additional payment for the repair of the service station .
  • A written agreement was reached between the insurer and the victim on the implementation of insurance compensation in the form of an insurance payment.
  • The insurer does not have the opportunity to send the damaged vehicle to a service station that meets the requirements of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation.
  • The victim died in an accident.
  • The victim is a disabled person of the 1st or 2nd group and has a special car and in the application for insurance compensation chose the form of insurance compensation in the form of receiving monetary compensation.
  • As a result of an accident, the victim suffered serious or moderate harm to health, and in the application for insurance compensation, the victim chose the form of insurance compensation in the form of receiving monetary compensation.

In all other cases, a damaged passenger vehicle owned by a citizen will be repaired at a service station with which the insurer has an agreement. In this case, only new parts may be used.

The introduction of priority vehicle repair in car insurance is designed to combat fraudulent schemes for taking money from insurers. These rules will apply to all drivers who purchased MTPL policies after April 28.

2. Penalty for exceeding repair deadlines. The new version of the law sets the maximum duration for restoring a car - no more than 30 working days. If this period is exceeded, the insurer must pay a penalty in the amount of 0.5% of the amount of damage for each day of delay, but not more than the amount of damage.

3. Mandatory compliance of service stations with the requirements of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation. One of them is the location of the service station no further than within a radius of 50 km from the location of the victim. If this criterion is violated, the driver has the right to refuse repairs and receive monetary compensation.

4. Increase in payments under the European protocol. The maximum amount of damage when registering an accident without the participation of police is 50 thousand rubles. Moreover, in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Moscow and Leningrad regions it can reach 400 thousand rubles. The rules for registering road accidents according to the European protocol are the same for the entire territory of the country.

5. Electronic policies. In 2017, drivers received the right not only to calculate the MTPL policy online, but also to buy it without leaving home. This scheme is convenient and, as a rule, does not take much time. An electronic policy has the same validity as a paper one, and you do not need to travel anywhere to receive it.

What factors determine the cost of the policy?

To calculate compulsory motor liability insurance in 2017, the same insurance rates are used as in 2016. The cost is based on the base rate, which is multiplied by several different coefficients. The price of MTPL depends on several factors:

  • car engine power. For cars up to 50 l. With. a reduction factor is provided, and for vehicles with engines from 70 hp. With. – several increasing ones;
  • driver's age and experience. OSAGO costs more for persons under 22 years of age and those who first received their license less than 3 years ago. If several drivers are included in the insurance, the youngest and most inexperienced is taken into account;
  • region. In megacities, the risk of getting into an accident is higher than in rural areas or small towns. Therefore, for example, for Moscow there is an increasing coefficient of 2, for St. Petersburg - 1.8;
  • number of drivers included in insurance. If the policy provides for the admission of an unlimited number of people to drive a car, the cost of insurance is multiplied by 1.8;
  • bonus-malus coefficient» . It allows you to reduce the cost of the policy and is determined upon request in the AIS RSA. For every accident-free year, the driver receives a 5% discount (maximum 50% for ten years);
  • Possibility of using trailers. Applies when using a vehicle with a trailer, with the exception of trailers for passenger cars owned by citizens.
  • period of use of the car. If the machine is used only 9 months a year or less, a reduction factor is provided.
